I don’t think I could have experienced Montenegro in the same ways that One&Only Portonovi did. The accommodations and food are five-star, and the service and hospitality are flawless. I have the good fortune to experiment with a variety of things. Taking a speedboat tour of the bay is the ideal approach to get a sense of location. From the resort’s own pier, our guide led us to almost every location in Boka Bay. A visit to the surreal Our Lady of the Rocks island in the middle of the bay was even included in the itinerary.
The little, rocky island is the location of a chapel with a turquoise dome that dates back to the fifteenth century. We also drove quickly to the entrance of Kotor’s Old Town and on to Tivat, the first millionaire’s community on the sea, renowned for its opulent restaurants, glitzy shops, and luxurious boats.
However, the service and the hotel’s distinctive experiences are where the One&Only Portonovi really treats its visitors as members of high society. Every experience offered to visitors makes them feel like a VIP, from the opulent med spa to exclusive boat cruises around Boka Bay and quiet forest walks through the highlands of Orjen and Lovcen.

However, the hotel’s arrangement for a closer link to Montenegro was my favorite experience. My guide Sasa, a skilled hiker and trail runner from the area, led me through dense forests and across rocky paths that lead to breath-taking views of Boka Bay. What waited at the conclusion of the voyage was the finest part. The route led to a 400-year-old, all-stone town where I met a family who had been villagers for many generations. Our host Nicola and his spouse are among the few people who still live in the town today; in fact, their great-grandparents helped build the community.”
